Artisan Break-In Service

At The Glove Bullpen, our experienced craftsmen in New Jersey, specialize in professional glove care, combining decades(!) of expertise in order to provide meticulous, artisan-level service for players who demand the perfect fit and longevity from their ball glove.

Using a proven, time-honored technique, we break in gloves/mitts by gently softening the only the necessary areas of the leather while maintaining its strength and integrity. Before beginning the process, we thoroughly inspect to determine the pattern of the glove/mitt so we can optimize the break in profile. After working the glove/mitt over, we lightly condition the glove/mitt to maintain the natural oils of the hide, ensuring an effective break-in without stripping away the essential leather nutrients.

Our method allows us to shape and soften the glove/mitt with minimal risk of damage, bubbling, tearing, shrinking or cracking like many other methods used today. You know, those free or steam box break-ins by a part time employee’s -if you want your glove/mitt to last and retain its shape, then stay away from those methods. Once the initial treatment and shaping is complete, the glove rests for 48-72 hours to ensure the padding and structure remain intact and the absorption of the conditioner is even and thorough.

When the glove/mitt reaches the ideal flexibility for regular catch play, we finish the process with a final conditioning and buffing to bring out the leather’s sheen. Your glove/mitt is then returned, ready to be broken in further through catch play, molding perfectly to your hand.
